Hi, I'm Whitley Lassen. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist based in Boulder, CO, with over 15 years of experience specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety, worry, phobias, and panic attacks. My goal is to empower you to live without limitations. I'll help you take control of your anxiety, fear, and phobias through a warm, empathetic, and professional approach. I combine compassionate support with a direct approach to help you step out of your comfort zone and achieve your goals.

I use exposure therapy to help you gradually build your tolerance to fears by slowly and safely exposing you to the source of your anxiety. This method helps reduce fear responses and anxiety over time. As a certified CBT therapist, I also guide you in understanding how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, enabling you to develop healthier patterns and coping strategies for managing anxiety.

My mission is to empower you with the tools and strategies needed to lead a meaningful and fulfilling life. I provide high-quality, data-supported interventions to ensure effective care, working together with you to set goals and measure progress, fostering a partnership in your therapeutic journey. My aim is to help you become your own therapist, equipped with the skills to manage your symptoms independently.

What do you recommend to help clients focus on their work?

When you're trying to concentrate but anxiety keeps creeping in, it can be tough. One helpful trick is to jot down your worries, anxious thoughts, or fears. Putting them on paper can make them feel more manageable, letting you push them aside for now and focus on what you need to do. It's like giving your mind a little break so you can get back to the task at hand feeling more centered and focused. By taking a moment to acknowledge and address your anxious thoughts, you can clear mental space for increased productivity and a greater sense of calm.

What is a superpower folks with ADHD have?

One superpower that many people with ADHD possess is hyper-focus. Hyper-focus is the ability to intensely concentrate on something that is highly engaging or interesting to them, often to the exclusion of everything else around them. While ADHD is commonly associated with difficulties in focusing, particularly on tasks that are perceived as boring or uninteresting, when individuals with ADHD find something that captivates their attention, they can exhibit an extraordinary level of concentration and productivity. This ability to enter a state of hyper-focus can lead to exceptional creativity, problem-solving skills, and productivity in areas of interest to the individual.

What is a superpower folks with anxiety have?

One superpower that individuals with anxiety frequently exhibit is enhanced observation skills. Due to their heightened awareness of their environment, driven by their anxiety, they tend to be exceptionally observant. They often notice subtle details and changes that others may overlook, which can be advantageous in various contexts. Whether it's picking up on non-verbal cues in social situations or detecting potential risks in their surroundings, their keen observation skills allow them to navigate the world with a heightened sense of awareness. These abilities can contribute to their overall adaptability and resourcefulness, making them valuable assets in both personal and professional settings.

What do you love about working with your clients?

As a psychologist, I find immense fulfillment in helping individuals develop skills and strategies to cope with anxiety. Anxiety is a common experience for many people, and I value the chance to support individuals as they work through it. Seeing people find relief and regain control over their lives through therapy is incredibly rewarding and underscores the importance of my role in supporting their mental health and wellness.

Why do you refer clients to focused space?

Many folks dealing with anxiety struggle with staying focused, as their anxious thoughts can be really distracting. This can make it tough to get things done at work or school. That's why I often suggest trying out Focused—it's a great toolkit designed specifically to help with concentration and focus when anxiety gets in the way. With Focused, you can learn some handy strategies to tackle those distracting thoughts and boost your productivity, making it easier to stay on track with your goals and tasks.
