the Science
Work with your brain,
not against it
ADHD looks different for everyone, which is why one-size-fits-all approaches rarely work. We created a set of neuroscience-backed tools designed to work with your brain—not against it.
Why we built focused Space
Designed by a creative, neurodiverse team who cares.
Too many products prey on people with ADHD, Autism, and attention issues... They promise BIG results, push people into a “one-size-fits-all” model of productivity.
Not here. At Focused Space, nothing gets built without input from our community — and our trusted network of ADHD, Autism, and Neurodiversity experts and advocates. Turns out, that benefits everyone, not just neurodivergent people! 😎

Our Framework
The science behind Focused Space
At Focused Space we rely on the latest research on neuroscience, motivation, and ADHD to design our tools.
Why it works
Neuroscience-backed brain hacks.

Body Doubling
Activate your “mirror neurons"
Here’s something wild about our brains: if you watch someone else pick up a cup, it can activate the same neurons in your brain as if you picked it up yourself 🤯
Mirror neurons are specialized brain cells that fire when humans perform an action, and when they observe the same action performed by another. They are key to our ability to learn and imitate other people’s behaviors.
Scientists theorize that mirror neurons are why Body Doubling works so well: seeing other people working makes it more likely you will feel motivated to mirror their behavior!

Make it easier
Find your “flow state”
A flow state, sometimes called “getting into the zone," is a mental state of deep concentration, full immersion, and finding joy in the details of our tasks.
When you enter flow state, your self-consciousness tends to fade and you might not even notice how much time is passing!
Working silently alongside other people in a Body Doubling session helps many people enter into a “flow state” more easily.
It helps you stay accountable to yourself and your goals.

How it feels
Get a dopamine boost
For neurodivergent brains (including ADHD and Autism), stressful or boring tasks can feel daunting due to lower dopamine levels.
The social presence of another person in a Body Doubling session boosts dopamine, making mundane tasks more engaging and easier to start.

Just enough structure + flexibility
Rituals, not routines
Too much freedom (total flexibility) can lead to anxiety, boundary blurring, and cognitive overload. At the same time... too much structure can be demotivating, and unrealistic for the shifting demands of our daily lives.
Research shows that unlike rigid routines, intentional rituals — like clearing our desk, or doing a quick breathing exercise — signal to the brain to start deep work, boosting our performance and productivity.
Our Body Doubling sessions are designed with a balance of structure and flexibility, to help your brain know when to queue up deep work, and when to relax into diffuse creative thinking.

the power of experimentation
Permission to "work weird"
Productivity research shows that there’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach to work — especially in creative fields, and for people with busy brains.
That’s why we offer a toolkit of different ways to get focused. You can think of it like a menu of evidence-based strategies. Use what works for you, ditch the rest, and work with your unique brain, instead of against it.
